Why Book with Us
Brief Gardens is the former home of Landscape Architect Bevis Bawa, brother of popular architect Geoffrey Bawa. Located about 20 minutes from Aluthgama town, Brief has a sprawling garden and a diverse collection of art. You can reach Brief after passing many paddy fields and narrow country lanes. At the entrance to the garden there are two statues with flower for hats. Among the attractions at Brief the most noteworthy are the homoerotic sculpture and the magnificent mural resembling the style of Marc Chagall. The garden is a much loved place of architects, especially those interested in landscape design. There are over 100 different kinds of trees in this garden.
You can either walk on your own or seek the services of a guide to explore the garden. If necessary, you can request a map from the staff at Brief. Although there are many paths in the Gardens, they all lead to the house. So, it is very rarely a person when walking without a guide in the Gardens will lose the correct path. The seats in the Gardens allow visitors to relax and enjoy a few minutes admiring the landscape and the well landscaped designs. When you have completed the walking in the Gardens, you can arrive at the main house for tea and biscuits with Dooland De Silva who has worked for Brief Gardens during the last 40 years. He was a close associate of Bevis Bawa and after tea he will take you on a tour of the house.
