Colombo is a melting pot of trade and commerce and lively city with a great history. In the past, it was visited often by Arab sailors to trade with Portuguese, Dutch and British colonialists who occupied Colombo and maritime areas of Sri Lanka. So, Colombo has traces of everyone who ruled Sri Lanka in the past. If you drive through city’s commercial center you can see many colonial era buildings beside modern hotels and offices. Colombo is Sri Lanka’s largest and most populated city situated on the west coast with Buddhist Temples, Hindu Kovils, Churches and Mosques scattered all over the city, an epitome of culture, history and tradition. Sri Lanka’s main harbor is situated in Colombo and the local bazaar and trading area is situated in Pettah. There are stately bungalows of affluent people in prime residential areas. There are many important places in Colombo such as the National Museum, Folk Art Center, Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), Independence Square, The Archives as well as modern buildings such as the Ceylon Ceramics Corporation with its prestigious ceramic ware brand “Noritake”, popularly clothing store ODEL, modern architectural marvel Lotus Pond and refurbished Arcade Independence Square which tourists can visit.
Dance & Culture - (Chitrasena Dance Company)
Description of the Location:
Chitrasena Dance Company, the oldest and esteemed dance company in Sri Lanka was established in 1940s by Guru Chitrasena. He brought Sri Lanka’s traditional dances which emanated from village rituals to the modern stage. He started expressing his ideas of these rituals in dance form on stage through the Dance Company. With the setting up of the Dance Company, the dance theatre of Sri Lanka transformed a lot. Today, the dance school and the Company are led by Chitrasena’s wife Vajira and daughter Upeka who have nurtured his legacy with a lot of love and respect for him. Chitrasena and Vajira are renowned as pioneers and revolutionists in Sri Lanka’s dance realm as they have not only performed on stage but also experimented without compromise. By using traditional dance language as well as the form they have been able to create a cutting-edge contemporary dance theatre in the country.

Visitors are shown two main experiences of dance form offered which display varied aspects of the traditional dance of Sri Lanka ranging from interactive sessions to behind the scenes sneak previews with each experience bringing out fitness, rhythm, and skills of dancers while meeting living legends of Sri Lankan dance.

This is an exciting experience which begins at Viharamadevi Park and passes through various important landmarks such as Town Hall, Cenotaph War Memorial, Nelum Pokuna, Colombo Race Course, Independence Memorial Hall as well as Arcade Independence. You can also practice how to ride your Ninebot Self Balancing Scooter in a safe traffic-free area in Colombo which is specially designed to learn about road safety. Once you know the basics of it, step on to your Ninebot and explore the attractive sights.

There are two options which are available for you, the 10-15 km stretch, about an hour’s ride or the 20-30 km stretch, which lasts for about two hours. You will be accompanied by the host and he will set the pace and take you through the safest routes at night.
Sports - (Royal Colombo Golf Club)
Description of the Location:
Royal Colombo Golf Club, the oldest Golf Club in Sri Lanka located in a residential area in Colombo. Established in 1880, it is a haven although surrounded by residential and commercial buildings with a scenic landscape and rare fauna and flora. As it is situated in a 96-acre former model farm it has a pastoral environment. This is the second oldest Golf Club outside the United Kingdom with a wide range of gold memorabilia in the clubhouse.
